Diary of a Mad SEO Gooroo

So you want to know how to get some PageRank? I could tell you but then Googlers who read this blog would run back to Matt Cutts and tattle on me. And the problem with sharing techniques in the open is that as soon as everyone picks up on them, a huge massive pattern develops and the search engines filter out the technique.

And that just makes me mad.

Still, here are a few tips and tricks that may help you get across the next hump.

Google’s Instant PageRank Recipe

Instant PageRank, like any other carbohydrate, is loaded with energy that will keep your Web site afloat in the search results for 1-3 weeks while you build links. Some sites last longer. But be careful when baking because sometimes it doesn’t work.

Take 1 new Web site, season it with plenty of content-rich pages (20-30 work best) that are well-linked to each other, and add an XML Sitemap. Then ping Google directly (don’t submit through Webmaster Central and don’t rely on robots.txt). Wait 1 week and check the search results for the Web site’s unique title tags. You should see plenty of pages in the index.

Variation: If you’re more into traditional aged PageRank, then don’t submit the XML sitemap. Instead, just let Google find the domain on its own. This process takes a little longer but you can usually seed the crawl with 1-2 links from popular domains (avoid forums and blogs).

Common Uses: Some people like to launch new domains with absolutely no connection to other sites. Some people will create a content site for the purpose of promoting another site. Some people use new domains for both purposes.

Ask’s Instant Expert Recipe

Note: Requires a unique expression.

Take 10 domains, scatter 5-10 pages of content (same topic) across each of them, and then create an 11th domain that links to the first 10. Associate all 11 domains with an expression that Ask does not provide much content for. Make sure the 10 domains link to the 11th domain with that expression. Liberally sprinkle outbound links to other sites across the first 10 domains.

Now create an RSS file (NOT an XML sitemap) and submit it to Bloglines. The RSS file should list all 11 domains. You may need to put it on a 12th domain.

Variation: If you have an existing set of domains that are already indexed in Ask, create a domain that links to them all with the same topicality in anchor text. Then have those domains link back to your directory.

Instant Crawl Page Recipe

Find four Web sites that are each indexed in only 1 search engine (Ask, Google, Live, and Yahoo!). Add 3 well-linked pages to each Web site.

For the Web site indexed only in Ask, place links to 10-15 Web sites that appear in Google but not Ask on the first page, place links to 10-15 Web sites that appear in Yahoo! but not Ask on the second page, and place links to 10-15 Web sites that appear in Live but not Ask on the third page.

For the Web site indexed only in Google, place links to 10-15 Web sites that appear in Ask but not Google on the first page, place links to 10-15 Web sites that appear in Yahoo! but not Google on the second page, and place links to 10-15 Web sites that appear in Live but not Google on the third page.

Repeat the process for Live and Yahoo!. Remember that maximum overlap between search engines is usually less than 60% so you should be able to find plenty of sites that are indexed in one search engine but not all four.

Avoid creating a Link Farm (i.e., don’t have all the sites link to each other).

Variation: One site can be used to kick-start crawls in all four search engines but it has to be well-indexed in all four services.

Uses: Useful for getting sites crawled and indexed. Not a good technique for building link popularity (although some people have reported success through the years).

Also useful for testing search engine crawl rates.

Content-rich Doorway Recipe

Take 1 topic and 1 page, spread 4-5 paragraphs of text about the topic across the page, ice with keywords in the title, H1, 2 H2 headers, and page URL. Tie it off with links pointing back to the root URL and HTML sitemap, which also need to link to the content-rich doorway.

Variation: Use a Content Management System (CMS) to generate a succession of content-rich doorway pages on a daily basis. Have each doorway link to the previous 10 doorway pages with rich margin links.

Uses: Good methodology for creating product pages, review pages, blog pages, and profile pages, etc.

How To Be Instantly Indexed In Google

Create an RSS file and ping the various blog directories with it. When your “blog” appears in Google Blogsearch your pages should also appear in Google’s Web search within a few minutes to a few hours.
